I was chatting with my 18-year-old and a couple of her friends earlier and it left me thinking about our values, and how they change throughout life.
At 18 her values seem set in stone. Although she knows they’ll change as she gets older, she can’t imagine it happening. How could she ever feel differently about […]

While making dinner today I got to wondering how man first discovered that certain things were edible. I mean… who first thought of boiling an egg? Or squeezing a cows udders and drinking what came out? Who first took the chance on boiling a potato and eating it even though raw potatoes make you ill? […]

I read something the other day about male/female friendships and how we generally choose friends of the opposite sex that are relatively equal to us, not only when it comes to intelligence, sense of humour etc, but also when it comes to what they look like. Apparently we don’t like to be seen with a […]
I was 27 and living on a farm in the middle of nowhere. My son was 9 and I had a year old daughter.
The house was a right old ramshackle place – so much so that the bathroom was down in an old, dark and damp cellar, there was no hot water and the window […]
So very tired…
Why don’t I just go to bed?

I’ve bought a pink velour track suit (ok, don’t shoot me – it was available and it was cheap), new trainers and … and sod it! I still need a bag! Must remember to get one!
Daughter nr 2 joined a week or so […]

Following on from my complaint regarding the lack of storage in this house, our little room is to be converted. It’ll still be a little room, but it’ll be a little room cum storage room cum mud room. Considering it’s tiny, I’m not quite sure how to do it yet.
I need shelves in there. Lots […]

I have big storage problems. Humungous storage problems.
I have a medical condition that has one particular side-effect that I don’t like. It’s called “untidy reminders” syndrome.
Apart from the living room, which I’ve deliberately kept free of this side-effect, every room in the house reflects the fact that I have a condition. There are boxes of […]

Apparently nurseries across the country are rewriting the old nursery rhyme that we sang as kids by exchanging the words ‘black sheep’ with ‘rainbow sheep’. Ok, so maybe I’m a bit late picking this up but things plog along at a relatively slow pace in the Jacobsen household.
Anyhow, I’m sure the politically correct brigade believe, […]

Sometimes when you cry
No one sees your tears…
Sometimes when you’re in pain
No one sees your hurt…
Sometimes when you’re worried
No one sees your stress…
Sometimes when you’re happy
No one sees your smile…

But FART just ONE time…
